It is a name that Tasha and her brother, Josh, came up with when they were kids. It helped to describe their multicultural roots and it was a way to respond to the constantly asked question, “What are you?” The name stuck. It also captures our value as a business, to honor the many variables that go into making each person who they are. The logo is a leaf from the kalo (taro) plant, which is considered a sacred, generative, and nutritional source of life in the Hawaiian culture. The kalo plant is where the word 'ohana (family) is derived. The ‘ohā is the shoot, the part of the taro plant which is cut and planted, becoming the next generation; ana being a conjunctive, drawing upon the act of regeneration or procreation. The kalo leaf is a symbol that calls us to pay attention to the interconnectedness of all of creation and to live with intentionality, recognizing that the way we choose to live today has great impact on the generations to come. We know we stand on the shoulders of so many. And, in the same way I know deep in my bones that God is bringing forth good that I may never see to its full fruition but it is good forming nonetheless, I know that a web is being spun out from this jagged center and catching in it those whose own stories resonate vibrate at the frequency of mine sending signals, even the gentlest, back up the silvery threads that connect us so I feel certain that neither of us is alone and surely this is blessing, you on me and me on you you in me and me in you.
